“I’m not going to allow myself to fall apart based on little things.”

In a video interview with Reuters, rapper 50 Cent, real name Curtis Jackson, has outlined his reasons for declaring himself bankrupt.

Jackson described the decision as a “strategic business move” that would not have any effect on his activities as 50 Cent.

“They won’t see any adjustments. There’ll be the same energy. I don’t expect a lot of people to understand a strategic business move,” he told Reuters while promoting his new film Southpaw.

“I’m clear on my target and I’m not going to allow myself to fall apart based on little things.”

Jackson filed for chapter 11 bankruptcy in a Connecticut court yesterday, (July 13). Papers filed revealed he had assets in the range of just $10 million to $50 million – the same range as his debts.

The news came shortly after a jury ordered Jackson to pay $5 million in damages to Lastonia Leviston after leaking a sex tape onto the internet as part of a feud with her ex-boyfriend Rick Ross.
