The rapper says his lavish lifestyle was all for show.

50 Cent appeared in a Manhattan court yesterday (July 21) where he claimed that his lifestyle was all for show, and that the majority of his luxury items were borrowed or rented.

The rapper and actor, real name Curtis Jackson, was in court to testify about his fortune to help a jury decide how much he should have to pay in punitive damages to Lastonia Leviston, whose sex tape he posted online folowing a feud with Rick Ross.

According the the New York Daily News, Jackson claimed that the lifestyle he portrayed on social media and in his videos was “entertainment”.

Jackson testified that a Rolls Royce he bought “on a whim” on July 4 only came from trading in two other cars, including a Lamborghini, and claimed that other cars, including a Bentley and a Ferrari were never owned, but rented.

As for his lavish collection of jewellery, Jackson claimed that it was primarily borrowed, apart from three gold chains that he has refashioned into new pieces occasionally.

When questioned about a $1.6 million bet Jackson said he’d placed on Floyd Mayweather’s winning fight against Manny Pacquiao in May, he said: “I didn’t make the bet.”

Though Forbes reported Jackson’s wealth at $150 million last year, he claimed that his net worth was just $4.4 million – $600,000 dollars less than the $5 million he’d been ordered to pay following the sex tape trial.

Jackson declared himself bankrupt last week after the verdict found that he was guilty of causing emotional distress and invasion of privacy and ordered him to pay out to Leviston.
