Bowie’s son reunites with one of our favourite soundtrack composers for a “sci-fi Casablanca.”

The score for Duncan Jones’ debut sci-fi feature Moon is one of the finest movie soundtracks of recent years, with composer Clint Mansell’s brooding minimalism proving the perfect backdrop for Sam Rockwell’s mental unspooling.

Jones next movie is another science fiction excursion, with Rockwell appearing again alongside Paul Rudd and Alexander Skarsgard. Mute is set in Berlin, 40 years in the future, and follows a mute bartender (Skarsgard) whose search for a woman takes him deep into the city’s underbelly, where he encounters a pair of strange American surgeons (led by Rudd).

Jones has co-written the screenplay with Mike Johnson, and Mute is expected to start shooting in March next year with a premiere in 2017.

In 2014 Mansell teamed up with Kronos Quartet to score Darren Aronofsky’s Noah, and we’re eagerly awaiting his contribution to Ben Wheatley’s J.G. Ballard adaptation High Rise, coming next year. [via FilmMusicReporter]
