A Christmas Melody airs on the Hallmark channel next month.

Mariah Carey is about the most festive pop star going (sorry Bublé), so it’s somehow not too surprising that she’s set to make her directorial debut with a made-for-TV holiday movie.

A Christmas Melody follows Kristin (Lacey Chabert), a fashion designer and “stylish divorcee” who has just moved from New York back to her Ohio home town, where she runs into her former high school rival Melissa (played by the Elusive Chanteuse herself).

Melissa is president of the PTA (of course!) and tries to make Kristen feel as unwelcome as possible, but “with a little holiday magic and music, Kristin and Emily find that home is where the heart is.”

Despite the promise of magic and music, Mariah reportedly doesn’t sing in the movie, and we’re not betting that the drama will be Oscar-worthy, going by the trailer below. A Christmas Melody airs on December 19. [via Stereogum]
