The surprise release is available now on iTunes.

15-year-old pop prodigy Willow Smith has released her debut album, Ardipithecus.

“Ardipithecus Ramidus is the scientific name of the first hominid bones found on earth. I wanted to name my musical compilation after it because, while I was making these songs I was in such a transitional state,” Smith explained to The Fader of the album’s name.

“Digging deep in the soil of my heart and finding bits and pieces of my ancient self that tell stories, which end up being the lyrics to the songs.”

Other credits on the album include Willow’s older brother AcE (aka Trey Smith) and JABS, but not her dad Will Smith – he’s plotting his own musical comeback.

You can get Ardipithecus at iTunes now, and stream the first single ‘F Q-C #8’ via The Fader.
