Because a rapper’s mantelpiece can only be so big.

Drake’s multi-million dollar dream mansion in Toronto will have a spa, a basketball court and a special room just for his awards when complete – if he can get the designs past the city’s planning bosses.

His plans for the two-acre site in the city’s Bridle Path area, which was bought last September for CAD$6.7 million, also include a gym, pool, hot tub, and a bar flanked by special chambers labelled “chilled champagne” and “chilled wine”. And that’s just in the basement.

As The Globe and Mail reports, the master bedroom has its own steam shower and two dressing rooms, while the exterior drawings look “palatial, with French design touches that give it a hint of Versailles.” And we know how well that turned out for France’s kings and queens.

The 21,000 sq. ft. mansion has been designed by Ferris Rafauli, who also built Drake’s borderline obscene, champagne bottle-lined party space at the Air Canada Centre, where the Toronto Raptors play.

Rafauli’s designs currently contravene the city’s zoning bylaws and are set to go in front of a committee next week for approval.

We don’t doubt Drizzy has the funds for his palace – he recently became the most streamed artist on Spotify as well as the artist with the most hits on the Billboard Hot 100 at one time.

FACT’s Daniel Montesinos-Donaghy argues that new album Views is the “first real disappointment” from one of rap’s biggest album artists. Has Drake peaked?
