Brooklyn megaclub Verboten may survive its financial troubles.

Back in March, Williamsburg nightclub Verboten was shut down over $360K in unpaid taxes and reopened in April after the owners, Jen Schiffer and husband Jon Perez, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy.

Schiffer explained this move was to “protect and consolidate our assets so we can operate this club […] and move forward. […]” Days later she was arrested on fraud charges for writing five phony checks that amounted to $31,000. She later claimed that employees stole the check book from the office safe.

Now, the couple are auctioning off their lease in an attempt to pay back debts.

According to Gothamist, who have acquired some of the legal documents regarding the lease bids, Eddie Dean, owner of NYC’s now-closed EDM haven Pacha, is looking to purchase the club: “According to the lease purchase agreement filed with the U.S. Bankruptcy Court between Verboten and 54N11BK, LLC, of which Eddie Dean is a managing member, his bid for the lease is $400,000.” This is just under $40,000 more than Schiffer and Perez owe. There are reportedly at least three other bidders, including someone who has placed one higher than Dean’s, although the bid is contingent on modifications to the lease terms.

The deadline for bidding is on July 13 and the court hearing for the lease sale is scheduled for July 20.
