The Dawson’s Creek star will star as fictional version of the DJ.

James Van Der Beek will be the creative mind behind Viceland’s first foray into scripted television with a series based on the life of Diplo, Deadline reports.

Tentatively titled What Would Diplo Do?, the six episode series will star Van Der Beek as a fictional version of the DJ in what’s described as “Louie meets WorldStarHipHop crossed with This Is Spinal Tap”.

Van Der Beek will also write, executive produce and act as showrunner for the series which he says “doesn’t take itself too seriously, but is not cynical”. Diplo, his manager Kevin Kusatsu and music video director Brandon Dermer will also executive produce, with Dermer directing.

The series began after Van Der Beek played Diplo in a promo video last year for the Mad Decent Block Party. While he said it was fun, he never expected it to become a series.

Watch the original video below and look for more this year.
