A permanent tribute in the singer’s birthplace.

The Brixton community has unveiled plans for a David Bowie tribute statue they hope to crowdfund over the next month: a bright red and blue lightning bolt embedded in the ground.

Designed with consultation from members of Bowie’s team in New York and London, the three-story tall memorial is a reference to the iconic Aladdin Sane cover and will be located five streets from Bowie’s Stansfield Road birthplace.

The crowdfunding campaign is asking for £990,000 (just over $1 million) to build the statue and has 28 days left to reach it. Rewards offered include buttons, posters and, for large donations, a replica of the statue. After one day, it’s already close to £20,000.
