The one-time synth supergroup will have a new version of 1973 score Tactus Tempus out later this month.
Members of Caribou, Floating Points, Simian Mobile Disco, Junior Boys and Hot Chip have teamed up to release a new version of experimental score Tactus Tempus by prolific composer Frank McCarty.
The original version was conceived and performed by McCarty’s group BIOME on 5 EMS Synthi synthesizers.
As Pitchfork reports, the new collective spontaneously formed in London in July 2016 at Joe Goddard’s basement studio, with each artist helming a separate synth or modular synthesizer system, while the original slides from McCarty’s work were projected on the wall.
The new LP features two new performances of the piece – a tonal version and a noises and impulses version – with each one recorded live in one 15-minute take.
The album is out March 17 on Bandcamp via Geej Recordings, the Canadian label home to Jessy Lanza’s FACT-approved Oh No album – one of our favorite LPs of 2016.
