The release includes a booklet with essays, never-before-seen photographs and more.

Thelonious Monk only ever recorded one soundtrack – for classic French film Les liaisons dangereuses – (which was later adapted into another cinematic classic, Cruel Intentions) – and it’s being released for the first time as 2xLP box set for Record Store Day 2017.

As Pitchfork reports, Les liaisons dangereuses was recorded with bassist Sam Jones and drummer Art Taylor and features two tenor saxophonists, Charlie Rouse and Barney Wilen. Tracks include ‘Rhythm-a-Ning’, ‘Crepuscule with Nellie’, ‘Blues’, ‘Well You Needn’t’, ‘Ba-Lue Boliver Ba-Lues Are’.

While the soundtrack was recorded in 1959, it has never been available outside the context of the film, which is out of print.

Thelonious Monk: Les liaisons dangereuses 1960 also includes a booklet with essays, never-before-seen photographs and more. It’s due out for RSD, which takes place on April 22, with a 2-CD version scheduled to land on May 19. Hear a snippet of the album over at WGBO.
