The body of a 25-year-old woman was discovered this morning.

A 28-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a woman was found dead at Bestival earlier this morning (September 11).

According to BBC News, the body of an unnamed 25-year-old was discovered in woodland at the edge of the festival’s site at Lulworth Castle in Dorset.

Police say they were called at 1am this morning after the alarm was raised over the woman’s welfare. Both victim and suspect are believed to be from London.

Detective Chief Inspector Sarah Derbyshire said that specially-trained officers were providing support to the victim’s family and that enquiries are underway to establish how she died.  A post-mortem examination will be carried out to establish cause of death.

Derbyshire continued: “We are working closely with the festival organisers and I would appeal to anyone with any information about the incident to contact Dorset Police.”

In a statement on Facebook, the Bestival team called the news “tragic… We continue to support the police in their ongoing investigation and our thoughts and prayers are with all the woman’s family and friends,” they added.

A cordon remains in place at the festival site while forensic examinations are carried out.

Police are appealing for anyone with information about the death to contact them on 101 and quote reference number 11:36 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
