Grime legend Major Ace, a founding member of Pay As U Go Cartel, has died.

The death of the London MC, whose real name was Luke Monero, was confirmed by his brother in an Instagram post on Sunday (October 8). The post revealed that Monero had been suffering from a brain tumor for the past three years.

Major Ace was one of grime’s original MCs, blazing a trail for the phenomenon in the early ‘00s. He was a founding member of the pivotal Pay As U Go Cartel, which kickstarted the careers of Wiley, Riko Dan, Gods Gift, Rinse FM founder Geeneus, Flowdan, Slimzee and more.

The sprawling garage crew enjoyed two big club hits – ‘Know We’ and ‘Champagne Dance’, which reached number 12 in the UK Singles’ Chart. Remind yourself of ‘Champagne Dance’ below.
