Update: Dr. Dre has now weighed in on the current controversy about whether 2.0pac will be touring the globe. NME point towards a video filmed backstage at Coachella, in which the rapper/producer addresses the tittle-tattle directly. According to Dre: “It was strictly for Coachella. Get it right. I want to get rid of all the rumours out there. This was not done for a tour. If a tour happens, we’ll see. This was done strictly for Coachella 2012, baby. Just for you”

In the video, Dre stresses that the hologram idea was his, and graciously thanks everyone who watched the show, whether in person or online after the fact.

According to Music Week, the stunt may not be the last we see of holographic Tupac. A ‘Billboard source’ has claimed that representatives for Dre and Snoop are in talks about the possibility of featuring Tupac 2.0 in a joint stadium tour. The venture has been described as “likely but not guaranteed”

Digital Domain, the brains behind the projection technology, have been far from coy about wanting to push the project further. According to CEO Ed Ulbrich, “Dre has a massive vision for this”.
