Following vigorous protest by conservative Islamic groups, Lady Gaga has been barred from Indonesia.

The full-time provocateur and part-time singer has a show scheduled in Jakarta next month. In light of dissent, Prefix report that the authorities have refused to grant Gaga a permit to enter the country. Police allegedly feel they cannot guarantee Gaga’s safety when she touches down.

Salim Alatas of the Islam Defenders Front had few warm words for the star: “She’s a vulgar singer. [She] wears only panties and a bra when she sings and she stated she is the envoy of the devil’s child and that she will spread Satanic teaching.” Although Indonesia is largely a moderate country, the group have been increasingly vocal in the last few years. Officials in South Korea and China have also taken high-profile umbrage to Gaga’s work in the past.
