As we sat down to watch the Olympic Opening Ceremony a couple of weeks ago, perhaps the last thing we expected to hear resonating through the stadium was the music of Benjamin John Power, aka Blanck Mass.

But hear it we did, along with that of his duo with Andrew Hung, Fuck Buttons. And maybe we shouldn’t have been surprised: last year’s Blanck Mass, released on Mogwai’s Rock Action label, was ambient music for enormous churches and breathtaking vistas – simultaneously soothing and sweepingly grandiose, esoteric and surprisingly accessible. FACT TV caught up with Power on a grey summer’s afternoon to discuss his Olympic experience, as well as the dancier direction of his new material for Dan ‘Oneohtix Point Never’ Lopatin’s Software label.
