The Icelandic post-rockers meant it when they said they were moving towards a more aggressive sound.

The creaking, crashing ‘Kveikur’ is the title track from Sigur Rós’ seventh album, due on June 17 via XL Recordings.

It’s the third song previewed by the band ahead of the record’s release, after the dreamy and uplifting ’Ísjaki’ and the gothic grandeur of ‘Brennistein’.

The band, who recently became a three-piece following the departure of keyboardist Kjartan Sveinsson, will follow in the footsteps of The Flaming Lips when they play a starry-eyed gig at Jodrell Bank Observatory in Cheshire on 30 August.

Stranger yet, they recently went through an honourable indie rite of passage by appearing in an episode of The Simpsons.
