Kim Gordon essay collection Is It My Body? out this month

A collection of Kim Gordon’s essays on art and music is set for publication this month ahead of her much-anticipated memoir Girl In A Band.

Is It My Body?: Selected Texts comprises Gordon’s writing from the 1980s to the early 1990s, with the Sonic Youth bassist reflecting on issues within contemporary art, architecture, music and the performance of male and female gender roles.

Edited by Branden W. Joseph, the essays also include analysis of avant-garde figures like Glenn Branca, Rhys Chatham, Tony Oursler and Raymond Pettibon, plus a conversation between Gordon and German artist Jutta Koether.

Is It My Body? is published by Sternberg Press this month priced €15.00.

Gordon’s latest project is the fiery improvisatory duo Body/Head with guitarist Bill Nace, who released their debut album Coming Apart on Matador last year. [via The Wire]
