Rough Trade to open shop in Nottingham, "the first of many" in the UK

The retailer has also bought a controlling stake in Rise.

After expanding to Williamsburg, Rough Trade will open its first UK store outside of London, a move founder Geoff Travis teased last year.

This autumn, Rough Trade will open a store in Nottingham’s Creative Quarter modelled on its existing East London, West London and New York stores. To help its growth throughout the UK, the company has acquired a majority stake in Rise Music, which has stores in Bristol, Worcester and Cheltenham. The Rough Trade Twitter account describes the Nottingham store as “the first of many” in the UK.

“Rough Trade defines the past, present and future of music retail like no other brand, so I’m delighted to be joining Rough Trade during this incredibly exciting period, helping bring their much loved and respected form of music retail to cities across the UK, starting with Nottingham,” says Rise’s Lawrence Montgomery, who will join Rough Trade as part of the deal.
