The Roll The Dice member and Fever Ray collaborator recreates the music of the Congo like never before.

Earlier this year we got word that Peder Mannerfelt was going to release a record of synthesizer music inspired by the sounds of the Congo. Pulling sources from the 1950 78rpm compilation The Belgian Congo Records by filmmaker Armand Denis, Mannerfelt moved past the idea of simply sampling the music and chose to completely remake it. The result is an ambitious record that sounds like it came from another planet while still being tethered to a distinctly African musical tradition.

The Swedish Congo Record will arrive on CD and digital formats next week on May 4 through Archives Intérieures. In the meantime you can listen to an exclusive sampler below which features five of the album’s 24 pieces.
