Mark Kozelek’s nasty streak continued at a London live show last night.
The Sun Kil Moon singer’s musical stock is at an all-time high following the success of last year’s Benji, but he’s also making more of a name for himself than ever in terms of being a cock when he plays live.
First there was the (one-sided, ridiculous) war on The War on Drugs, then he called IndyWeek writer Allison Hussey a “spoiled bitch rich kid blogger brat”. And this time? According to a review by Jon Mulvey in Uncut, Kozelek’s show at The Barbican last night ended in an encore that involved him calling out a female Uncut writer, singing a “spontaneous song about how she “totally wants to fuck [him]” and how she should “get in line, bitch.” Then, after performing ‘Caroline’ and ‘I Can’t Live Without My Mother’s Live’, he claimed that he was “just kidding” before singing the song again.
Kozelek has yet to comment on this, but he doubtless will. You can stream his new album Universal Themes here, and revisit Maya Kalev’s review of Benji here.
