Grime with all the family.
Skepta will round off a pretty massive year with a performance on the holy grail of Christmas music telly – the Top of the Pops Christmas special.
“The Christmas special will be an hour-long celebration of all things pop,” said the BBC in a statement yesterday. The show, which was broadcast weekly up until 2006, will air its pre-recorded special on BBC One on Christmas day, with another shown on New Year’s Eve.
The Mercury-winner will be rubbing shoulders with a whole raft of pop stars, including Zara Larsson, Craig David and Olly Murs.
Earlier this month, Skepta revealed that he is making a grime film about Boy Better Know and said that he is open to potentially collaborating with Adele. The mooted film would adapt the story of the Tottenham MC’s long-running grime crew BBK, “but not in a completely autobiographical way,” he told the Evening Standard.
In the same interview, he said that he plans to spend his untouched £25,000 Mercury Prize winnings on similar community-focused projects to the Levi’s Music Project he began in Tottenham in August.
