He “didn’t sleep last night.”

Stewart Lee has said that he is as much in the dark about current rumours of an ATP cancellation as everyone else.

Speaking to The Quietus, the comedian said: “At the moment, of course it’s terrifying for people. It’s not great for me either, to be honest. You know, I’ve got a babysitter, I’ve made plans, so in that respect I’m in the same boat as everyone else. I didn’t sleep last night, I thought I was gonna have a stroke or something.”

Lee was invited to curate the first of the two ATP festival weekenders at Pontins, Prestatyn on April 15-17, with post-hardcore mavens Drive Like Jehu curating the following weekend.

However, yesterday (February 29) a screengrab was posted online showing an exchange between Pontins and a Twitter user, which read: “Unfortunately the organiser has cancelled the event the only thing happening now is a standard family break.”

The festival then tweeted: “We have just spoken to Pontins and we are currently resolving this miscommunication. Our events are going ahead as planned.

“These events have not been cancelled, we’ll endeavour to keep you updated.”

However, there has been no word from ATP since.

This would not be the first time that ATP has cancelled a festival at short notice. In 2014 a festival planned for London’s ExCel Centre was cancelled just days in advance, with the organisers blaming poor ticket sales.

ATP initially ended its 14-year run of holiday camp festivals in 2013, but rebooted them last year with a weekend curated by Jake & Dinos Chapman.
