“Sadiq Khan it’s time to start doing the job you promised to us.”

DJs and musicians are calling on London mayor Sadiq Khan to stand up for Fabric.

Yesterday (August 15), it was reported that the London club is to remain closed after its licence was temporarily suspended by Islington Council, following the suspected drug-related deaths of two 18-year-old men.

Daniel Avery and Leftfield are among the artists urging Khan – who has vowed to save London’s declining nightlife, which includes appointing a “night czar” – to take action. See a selection of the tweets below.

The UK has lost almost half of its nightclubs in the past 10 years, with noise complaints and licensing rules contributing to the decline.

Fabric’s closure would deliver one of the heaviest blows to the capital’s nightlife yet, which has in recent weeks seen east London venue Dance Tunnel shut its doors and Greenwich club Studio 338 destroyed by fire.

Update: The mayor has taken to Twitter to urge Fabric and Islington Council to find a solution together.
