That was the week that was. And this is how it went.

As well as The Drums issuing details of their eagerly awaited debut LP, we learned of the return of clicks ‘n cuts hero Oval, and marvelled at the sheer girth of the Glastonbury 2010 line-up (LCD, Stevie Wonder and hundreds more). We offered up our A-Z of Record Store Day 2010, and pretty much wet ourselves at the prospect of a Jim O’Rourke-helmed Bacharach covers LP. We actually did wet ourselves at the confirmation of Burial’s contribution to El-B and J Da Flex’s Nu Levels CD.

There was the chance to stream LCD Soundsystem’s imminent This Is Happening LP in its entirety, and tidings of two exciting new releases from the Kompakt fold: Wolfgang Voigt presenting a fresh full-length of Freiland Klaviermusik on his recently resuscitated Profan label, while Michael Mayer prepares to deliver the third in his ongoing Immer mix series. A smart-looking African house compilation, a remix project involving virtually the entire Bristol dubstep scene, and studio albums from Crystal Castles and The Chap added to what was an extraordinary week for new music. Old is gold too, though, and we were pleased to report of forthcoming vinyl reissues of records from Sub Rosa and Glenn Branca. After hosting the online premiere of Rough Trade’s Pantha Du Prince documentary, we bid adieu to Tortsten Profrock’s amazing T++ project, and were sad to have to extend a more permanent goodbye to the dearly departed Steve Reid.

Berghain resident and one half of rave insurrectionists MMM, Fiedel contributed arguably the most banging FACT mix 0f 2010, and together with his partner Erik ‘Errorsmith’ Wiegand gave a rare and in-depth MMM interview. We also found time to profile Fatima, the young vocal sensation at the heart of Alex Nut and Floating Points’ Eglo collective.

In album reviews this week, Ramadanman was crowned a quiet master of percussion and jj were declared better than Paul Lester. Meanwhile in the tracks and singles section, Hot Chip, Mount Kimbie and Oni Ahyun received rave reviews, but Joker’s latest 12″ didn’t fare quite so well. Recent offerings by Kontext and Caribou also found themselves rated and slated.
